ABSTRACT

The Neolithic mound of Çatalhoyuk, in central Turkey, holds the remains of one of the world's oldest known towns, dating back some 9000 years. 

The extraordinary mural art displays two types of motifs which are striking to the mimetic theorist: symmetrical images of immobile, face-to-face warring leopards, and scenes in which a crowd of humans baits and persecutes an enormous but helpless wild beast...
