Conference on
Religion & Development

June 14/15, 2007

The role played by religion in the development of so-called ‘underdeveloped’ countries and regions has been the subject of discussion for some years now. That is to say, academic, policy-making and governmental circles have been exploring the issue of whether religion can or will fulfil a positive or a negative role in achieving goals set by the international development cooperation.

This conference aims to address the some fundamental questions that underlie the development cooperation’s failures to produce the envisaged results. The organizers are basically interested in the question whether it may be true that the so-called resurgence of religion may be interpreted as a form of critique on western-type modernization, and also as a form of critique on development processes.

The conference will be relatively small-scale, with about 50 participants attending on an invitation-only basis. Experts in the field of religion and development have already been invited. Those who are both occupied with the theme and interested in attending the conference but did not receive an invitation can contact us (see Contact).
